Directions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together water, yeast, and sugar until fully combined. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, allowing the yeast to dissolve and foam starts to form
  2. In bowl, combine evaporated milk, egg, salt, vanilla extract, yeast mixture, butter, and flour. Mix dough. Then, transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size
  3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a long rectangle, about ¾ inch thick, and cut it into squares
  4. In batches, fry the dough in hot oil over medium heat for about 1 minute, or until they puff up and turn golden brown
  5. Transfer the beignets to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Dust with powdered sugar and enjoy!
